A journey of ten thousand rows

begins with a single stitch.

Hi, my name is Tom Mays; I am the person behind the Loved and Found project and website. I am a man of many interests and many passions. Once I was asked if I could sum myself up in three words, my answer came almost immediately… Creative, Compassionate and Giving. I am always most at peace and in my center when I am creating something. From painting to composing music or from knitting to designing this website I love being creative.

I truly believe that when people are creative they journey inwards and gain a better understanding of the bearing of their soul, and from those depths of this inward journey comes outward expression and a desire to share with others. After working in education for decades, I have seen this progression with students many, many times. I have even lectured at universities in China on the use of art, music and technology as motivating factors in education.

Creativity truly is at the core of my being, but that is only the Yin to my compassion’s Yang. It is these two aspects of myself, creativity and compassion that compel me to create and give away. That is the purpose of the Loved and Found website. It was built to provide knitting and crochet resources and the hopes to inspire the creativity and compassion of others. If you are here I thank you for joining me on this journey.

Having opened in 1981 Northampton Wools was already established when well published designer Linda Daniels purchased it in 1988.
Her designs can be found on the pages of Interweave Knits, Love of Knitting and she has been a featured designer for
Frog Tree Yarns for several years. Her designs have also been made it to the silver screen and
can be seen in such films as Cider House Rules and Perfect Stranger.

Learning from Linda is like learning at the feet of a master.
The store is always well stocked and like Linda is always welcoming.
