The Loved and Found project is a group of dedicated like-minded knitters, crocheters and fiber artists doing what they can to make the world a better place one stitch at a time. It started as a means to share warmth and kindness with those in need through knitting, and it grew into a project supported by tens of thousands of fiber artists around the world who embrace the simple idea of doing good through random acts of kindness.
Eventually, all fiber artists will exhaust the number of recipients of their craft, yet the need to continue creating remains. We have become the hands of yarn, transforming these fibers into objects of warmth and beauty. We have become their feet and put these objects of beauty into the world for others to discover and enjoy.
A tag is attached to these handcrafted objects which reads "Loved and Found" on one side, and on the other side, it reads, “Did you find me? I wasn’t lost, I was left here for you because you need something special today. Wrong color? Not your style? Then please pass it on to someone you might know. Live to Share. Share the love”. These handcrafted objects are then left in cafés, on park benches, in subways and anywhere they can be found. My wife and I once had the good fortune to witness someone finding a hat that I just finished knitting and put out into the world. To that individual it was more than just a hat, it was an affirmation that random acts of kindness are alive and well.
Since the start of this project, fellow knitters, crocheters and fiber artists from around the world have taken up the mantle and have become part of Loved and Found. There are those that feel this is a great way of giving to those in need while still preserving their dignity.
This website also offers extensive resources for both knitting and crochet. You can find these resources listed in the menu at the top of the page. These resources were created to teach, inspire and support those involved in the Loved and Found project and all who wish to learn and explore the world of fiber crafts. I have repeatedly heard about people who would love to be part of the Loved and Found project, if they only knew how to knit or crochet. To that end, I have tried to create a website that offers basic video tutorials, lists of both knitting and crochet abbreviations, along with beginner’s projects and links with thousands of patterns for the beginner and seasoned knitter alike. All we ask in return is that you use some of your newfound skills to further the cause of random acts of kindness, which is at the heart of the Loved and Found project. Please do what you can to put some warmth and beauty into the world.
In a world fraught with darkness, together we can be the light. Moreover, we can use that light to inspire others.
Live to share. Share the love.
