Be inspired! Look at the world around you and see what it is that excites, motivates and inspires you. If you are looking but not seeing then you could be on the right track. It’s not uncommon for many of us to overlook what’s missing. After all, it’s not easy to see what isn’t there. However, when we do, that is when the light goes on. Once we see what is missing, we can work toward filling that need.

Here’s an example. Where I live, the winters are long, cold and dark. Like many, after the lights, wrappings and trappings of the holidays, I found myself starved for color. Then, one day I wandered into a yarn shop. It was like stepping into a garden during full bloom. Instantly, I could feel my mood elevate. Which was surprising, as I hadn’t realized how much I needed the stimulus that all these colors would provide. Part of me wanted to run out into the street to tell everybody about all the wonderful colors that I discovered, but I then considered how crazed I might appear and thought the better of it.

Still. The seed was planted, and it wasn’t long before I was digging into my stash of yarn. I examined each ball, skein and hank, with renewed interest and renewed purpose. With circular needles and yarn in hand, I settled down to knit and before long, I had a very colorful hat to put out into the world. That weekend I brought the hat to a café where I left it in hopes of it being discovered. I sat and sipped my coffee and watched. Within moments, someone took notice of the hat. They picked it up, examined it, looked around as though to see who might have left it, and then promptly turned it into the Lost and Found. Oh, well, best-laid plans and all that. It didn’t take me long to figure out what I needed to do and thus the Loved and Found tags were born. So, out of the cold gray of winter, I was inspired by the warmth and color of yarn to start creating knit goods to put out into the world.
